THE FIGHTER IN YOU
Talk 1 – AGAINST THE ROPES
Crisis Shapes Character (FR. GIL PETER COCHING)
FR. GIL PETER COCHING of the society of the Divine World is a resident
priest at the Christ the King Parish Greenmeadows Avenue, Quezon City.
He became a
spiritual adviser of the Rivers of Living Water Catholic community in Cebu. He
is called “The Karaoke Priest” because whenever he’s giving a homily he starts
with stories then finish with serenade. A priest in formal vestments crooning
love songs, he simply kept his listeners mesmerized, as he segues into the key
massage of the Sunday Gospel.
Without much prodding,
the congregation sing along with him, and they come back to church again and
again filling up pews.
Talk 2 – YOUR PAIN, YOUR GAIN
Healing the Child Within (GAVINO SANTIAGO)
GAVINO “Vins” SANTIAGO captivated us with his confession the he had
sex change, god married, and lived in Europe as Vina Santiago-Robinson.
Then, he experienced
a spiritual awakening renewal and made a 180-degree turn toward living as God
had intended him to be.
Vins says the
“third sex” group had been maligned and alienated from the church because of the
Pharisee-like judgment against them.
He ads that
with God and the comforting guide of the Holy Spirit, he had endured
persecutions on account of his earlier sex orientation.
But then, even
as he decided to live as a real man, he faced ostracism why he should retract
from his decision to have a sex change. Bravely, he points to Heaven as his
reason for turning a new leaf in life.
He says he is
not out to convince homosexuals to follow his example, as he accepts them as
they are—as God accepts them as His children. At most, Vins adds, he may be
able to influence them to turn to God, that they may become what God intends
them to be.
Vins says the
he dreams of mounting a Street Feast for gays, with dancing and singing,
celebrating with true Christians—all children of God.
Vins Santiago,
the Philippines’ first transsexual Filipino, is now a minister-counselor by
faith at Body od Christ. On his Facebook Page, he wrote that one sleepless
night, he turned on television and turned in to a program that happened to be
The 700 Club, which featured people who went through dramatic changes in their
life after a spiritual awakening.
“After feeling
alone… I could identify with others who, like me, had undergone major changes
in life,” He said. He then responded to the show’s invitation “to accept Jesus
Christ as My Savior and live a life of obedience to His Word”.
